Drowning immigrants: bug or feature?

I’ll bet the denial of swim lessons to new Canadians is another one of Stephen Harper’s plots to control the citizenry, this time by keeping recent immigrants fearful of our many lakes, rivers, streams and swimming pools so they will feel the need to vote Tory.

Because so many of immigrants have grown up without swimming lessons or even access to water sports in their home countries, Ottawa should set up a new department – maybe Aquatic Safety Canada/Sécurité aquatique Canada.

And maybe we should amend the Charter to include a right to enjoy our waterways without unequal fear of drowning.
