David McGimpsey: The elite’s “guilty pleasures” almost “always seem to consist of activities which seem pretty normal or average”

August 16, 2016 By Kathy Shaidle

David McGimpsey writes:

In poetry, the common pleasures of the working class are often noticed but usually with a contempt for the “maudlin and lager” which clouds the beautiful pity of the poet’s view. This is why “The Homeless Guy Poem” is the most common cliché of the creative writing classroom and why homeless guy poems are never concerned with the homeless guy’s taste in movies.
