Not sure how long it will last.

My thoughts on this subject are heretical (and all too familiar to loyal 5FF readers):

Margaret Thatcher wasn’t elected PM until May, 1979.

The Labour Party had been in power since 1974.

Yet this sort of thing is rampant.

It’s one of the paradoxes of punk.

One can unearth a Strummer or “Rotten” lyric or quotation to prove any political position. It’s called proof-texting.

And it’s especially dangerous when dealing with statements uttered by men in their mid-twenties (at most) consuming large quantities of recreational drugs, and with few attractive alternative outlets available to channel their anger or ambitions.

Rotten really didn’t “hate Pink Floyd” after all, any more than Strummer actually wanted David Bowie consigned to the scrap heap.
