If you don’t find this book hilarious, you are either too prudish the hear any straight talk about sex or too prurient to discern the disorder of your own strange habits. Shaidle is standing athwart the sexual revolution yelling “Stop!” not because sexual libertines overemphasized the importance of sex, but because they actually ruined it with shows like The Love Boat and sex toys that run on 110 volts A/C.
But she’s doing more than yelling here; she is serving up the truth for those with ears to hear in a comic wrapper. Every page harpoons the risible constructs in not just the world of sexual liberation, but in the world of sex at large. Which is to say, nothing is safe. Even Sean Hannity’s and Alex Jones’s failed dating services are fair game. Her rant is like a shooting spree taking aim at dozens of targets: alien abductions, “Starseeds”, “demisexuals”, “transabled” people, “two-spirited” Indians, Puritans with Tourette’s, personal ads by over-wrought females decrying “davenport potatoes”, etc….
It’s only 41 pages, making it a quick read. The only complaint I could make is that it’s too short. The only warning I’d give is that if you read it in public, you might laugh out loud. Or your face might turn red.
