‘Who hasn’t read a contemporary novel set in Melbourne or Sydney…?’

February 10, 2014 By Kathy Shaidle

Me!!!

Michael Coren likes to call would-be sophisticates like this woman “parochial;” they’ balk, but it’s true.

Go to the Toronto Film Festival. Sit in a theater full of local artistes and “creatives.” The types who all loudly mock people who don’t have passport or library cards.

And listen to them swoon when, for a nanosecond, a local landmark passes briefly into view in the movie they’re watching.

It’s sad, really.
