5 Feet of Fury

Far be it from me to argue with Vaclav Havel about Lou Reed

Great story. (I’m not being sarcastic.)

However, let me repeat:

Lou Reed did (and sang about) a lot of dangerous stuff, and an unknown number of punters threw their lives away copying their hero.

After Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols died of a heroin overdose, bandmate Johnny Rotten observed: ‘I blame it on too many Lou Reed albums.’

That is 100% THEIR problem.

But it is still a bit of a problem, no?

Frank Sinatra had the same effect on my dad.

I still love Frank Sinatra.

(More than I love my father, frankly.)

I’m just sayin’…

UPDATE Steve Sailer writes:

I have this theory that celebrities like Reed live longer, on average, than you or I would if we did the same things to our bodies. They really are better than us, metabolically speaking.

By the way, everybody knows that Science has proven that nobody can change from gay to straight. Except there seem to be various celebrities who have. Reed, for example, always went around saying he was a junkie (here is the Velvet Underground’s 1967 epic “Heroin”) homosexual. But then when AIDS came along when he was 40, he suddenly was an ex-junkie ex-homosexual.

(As always, Sailer’s commenters are worth reading. BTW: that Lawrence Welk video is spoof.)

Oh, and we’ll never know who could’ve and should’ve gotten the transplanted liver that went to Reed instead.

PS: Thanks to the loyal 5FF reader who sent this in, with the subject line: “Mick and Paul have only ever been in it for the hats.”
