Andrew Lawton: ‘The Ann Coulter I Know’

Andrew Lawton writes:

Later that year, I wound up seriously ill in the hospital, on life support.

By a bizarre chain of events that I still don’t entirely understand, word got to Ann through author Mark Steyn that I was in the hospital and she ended up emailing back and forth with my father late one evening.

Ann made a solemn promise to my family that she would pray for me. This wasn’t a promise made with a camera pointed at her, nor one that would sell any books. It was merely a message of support to distraught parents.

Upon learning of this, my friend, Wendy Sullivan, advised, “Make sure someone tells Andrew that Ann Coulter is praying for him, because if that doesn’t wake him from a coma, nothing will.”

Weeks later, when I was awake and alert, I emailed Ann to thank her for her support and prayers. Three minutes later, I received the following response:

“IS THAT YOU, ANDREW?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have my whole christian network praying for you! hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Brief, raw, and candid, like all of her emails.
