A reader emails (subject line: ‘heat exhaustion’ is the new ‘black’)
hi,
so chicago had to shut down one of its beautiful downtown beaches on memorial day and evacuate it, due to what the media reported as ‘heat exhaustion.’ but as you always say, the real story is in the comments:turns out, the only warmth to worry about on the lovely 88 degree day was, as one comment puts it, the heat that was being packed. a bunch of gangs from the south side came up to play in the rich white touristy neighborhood, and the police couldn’t handle it, so they shut down the beach, and everyone (police, media, mayor) lied about doing it because of the heat.
in the chicago tribune, not a word about it, except in mentioning the people who died from gunshots that day, though they don’t mention anything more than that.i’m used to reading all your stories about media cover-ups during muslim riots in europe or native troubles in ontario, but it’s really something to experience this sort of blatant news lying when it’s in your own neighborhood! thank goodness for comments, at least.
