Wikileaks: ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and don’t write about the ‘drag queen boyfriend’

The Lady Gaga angle should have been yer first clue…

Throughout history, the military has had a love/hate relationship with homosexuality, and vis versa.

This takes another, er, twist in the Wikileaks saga. As I was telling someone a few days back:

“…suspicion has centered on Pfc. Bradley Manning, 23, an Army intelligence analyst now in military custody….”

“Manning is openly gay and has been active in gay rights movements.”

But how was this possible if the Pentagon had a policy against gay soldiers?

Jonah Knox, the pseudonym for a noncommissioned officer and analyst in the United States Army Reserves, pointed out in an AIM column that, rather than repeal the Pentagon’s homosexual exclusion policy, the WikiLeaks scandal demonstrates that the policy and regulations need to be tightened up.

It gets better, via VDH:

…you see poor Bradley was also upset, depressed, and he felt underappreciated. In part, that was because his drag-queen boyfriend had recently dumped him.

Had Manning been “active in the Tea Party movement” you can bet the NYT and WaPo would not only have mentioned it, it would have been mentioned in their headlines.
