5 Feet of Fury

Report from local Godzilla’s Birthday celebration

Canada does indeed suck, but these people exist everywhere (see the next post):

“I would like us all now to take a moment of silence together, for the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and pray that they forgive us.”

At that moment, what the great Kim Du Toit called the “red curtain of blood” descended in front of my eyes. Forgive us? FORGIVE?? US??!!? FUCK! OFF!

How about a minute of silence for the 10 million victims of Japanese imperialism and military aggression?

How about 30 seconds of thought for the 100 million people they enslaved in their “East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere”?

How about a few seconds for the thousands of Australians who were captured, imprisoned in horrible conditions and executed by beheading, years before the US entered the war?

How about the thousands of young Canadian men starved and tortured and marched to death by these very same Japanese? And how about one second of gratitude for the American, British, German and Hungarian scientists who gathered in New Mexico and spent 4 years and a couple billion dollars to create the weapon that brought down the Japanese Empire, ending its conquest and enslavement of the western Pacific?

A weapon that not only ended the war in a few days, but completely destroyed Japanese Imperialism, probably forever?

One of the first things Arnie said that made me fall in love with him was his idea that the statue of Winston Churchill that’s been exiled to the parking garage at City Hall should be moved beside the “eternal flame” Hiroshim memorial that’s smack dab in the center of the City Hall plaza.

And arranged in such a way that it looks like Churchill’s pissing on the fire.

PS: I know the fellow who wrote that. He is the most mild mannered, soft spoken, most “Canadian” man you could hope to meet.

He is really pissed off. About a lot.

“Conservative” politicians and pundits may want to take that fact into consideration.

(Yeah, right.)
