5 Feet of Fury

What if Arizona was Quebec?

Michael Filozof writes:

Suppose for a moment that 15 million Americans — the population of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut combined — sneaked across the border into Quebec.

Suppose that these illegal immigrants refused to learn to speak French, that they applied for Canadian welfare, that they reproduced at a rate higher than Quebec’s residents, and that they bankrupted Canada’s socialized medical system.[Ed’s note: too late, but anyhow]

Suppose that they sent their children to Canadian schools in such large numbers that Quebec’s school system had to teach “French as a Second Language” courses.

Suppose that the 15 million illegal American aliens included large numbers of criminals, drug dealers from Vermont, and arms traffickers, causing Quebec’s crime rate to soar; that they comprised 20% to 30% of Quebec’s prison inmates…

And the best part:

Suppose that the illegals marched openly in the streets of Montreal, waving the Stars and Stripes, celebrating the Fourth of July, and demanding amnesty.

Then, from the comments…

Having lived in Quebec for more than 20 years, I suspect that most of Canada would cheer if English speaking Americans came illegally across the border and inundated that province.

The quebec leftist entitlement attitudes and dreams of secession would be put away forever. The need to legislate a dying and vulgar 16th century peasant dialect, as bad as that of the bayou, would be hung out to dry.

Canada’s health care system is already on its last legs in it’s present form because most of the left here act as though they were Greeks or Spaniards of modern day, entitled to everything and not wanting to contribute anything of their own, expecting the “rich” to do it for them. Filozof’s idea is a cute one, but based on generalizations that simply are not accurate. We would save $100’s of millions every year if we didn’t have to produce government documentation and services in 2 languages. If Americans crossing over brought their guns, that too might be a good thing, with all the jump through hoops legislation Canadians have to go through just to get a sporting license that doesn’t entitle you to carry.

Canadians generally don’t speak of religion, and it is not a prerequisite of public life, but all the Irish Catholics could resuscitate the failing ancient churches of the province without resentment of the church in Rome, but perhaps the local priests who, like imams, were instigators of the racism and terrorism of the late 60’s and early seventies. The racism remains, as it does in Belgium today. I’ll even start an underground railroad for you if your first language is English, with rush orders for conservatives. Thank you.
