Elizabeth May seems confused about “peace rally” (with video UPDATES)

The Green Party statement reads:

OTTAWA -  Contrary to rumours circulating on the internet, Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada did not appear at a Hezbollah event two years ago.

August 12, 2006, Ms. May did speak at a peace rally in Toronto along with Jewish and Arab Canadians to call for an end to the violence then raging in the Middle East.

In her remarks she strongly condemned Hezbollah for launching rocket attacks in to Israel as well as Israel for the bombing of Lebanon.

The Green Party of Canada supports peaceful resolution acceptable to all parties in the Middle East.

But the August 12, 2006 rally WAS the Hezbollah event.

I was there.

I’m not in the habit of counterdemonstrating at run of the mill peace rallies. This one was presented to me as an anti-Israel rally, that’s why I attended and that’s what I saw there, including signs equating Jews to Nazis.

PS: there were NOT two different big rallies in Toronto that day, believe me.

Organizers probably called it a “peace rally” — they call everything they do a “peace rally”. But it was in fact an anti-Israel rally, as indicated by the fact that it took place outside the Israeli consulate and was peopled primarily by angry Muslims, who don’t usually go to “peace rallies” such as those commemorating Hiroshima, etc.

A reader sends in these videos she shot at two different Toronto demos. If it’s raining in the footage, it wasn’t the demo I was at. (In fact, that looks like it was shot outside the Bay/Bloor Indigo Bookstore, at one of the regular slo-mo Kristalnachts the Muslims and their dupes run at the front door to protest the Jewish owners’ support of Israel.)

If it’s sunny, and you can hear the construction workers banging on the ROM Chin addition, that was the demo I was at. It wasn’t very peaceful.
