What? That’s “more than a thousand people”. What??

(via SDA, who has a great original, related, story of media malpractise from the last election. When will they learn that we’re watching them?)

And yes: calculating crowd size is notoriously tricky, but it can be done. (And presumably this particular event occured beneath restricted airspace, so the method detailed in Wired would be out of the question, but still.)

You’d think that, since newspapers have been around for a hundred years, ONE reporter would have come up with a simple yet eliable method of calculation. But that assumes they’re interested in the truth…
