I’m still not sure about this “Crescent of Betrayal” thing

September 8, 2008 By admin

Is the United 93 memorial really supposed to be a Muslim crescent that points to Mecca? This seems extremely nutty.

However, whatever the designer’s real or imagined intentions (and I suspect he’s just your typical over-educated idiot who knows everything, and nothing, about symbolism and emotion), of all the geometric shapes that exist in our dimension, why pick a crescent for this, of all memorials? Is the Vietnam Memorial shaped like a hammer & sickle?

Those who object to this memorial should just say “this is a stupid idea” without getting into longitudes and latitudes. Can’t we just leave the site the way it is?

I don’t even understand the “broken circle” excuse. Don’t the passengers represent an UNbroken circle, if you want to get all airy fairy about it?

Anyway, I’ll just repeat what I said in 2005 when this dubious project was first announced:

Last time I checked, wood was still flammable, and chainsaws were legal.

Just sayin’…
