Mark Steyn: “My career in Canada will be formally ended next month”

That is a mandatory injunction. An obligatory ‘cease and desist’ order. If the complainants win, the Tribunal has to order Maclean’s to stop running ‘Islamophobic’ articles. Not just articles by Mark Steyn, mind you; they have to stop running those articles period. Goodbye Barbara Amiel. Now, you might respond that Steyn wouldn’t be silenced, he would just have to pick his words more carefully. But think about it; the CIC is not just complaining about the excerpt from America Alone, but about a whole sheaf of Steyn’s articles. It’s pretty safe to assume that whatever Steyn has written about Islam in the last seven or so years would be considered offensive by the CIC. In the face of an injunction, then, he would either have to stop writing about Islam or stop obeying the dictates of his conscience as a writer.

“The students may say they don’t want to silence Mark Steyn or anyone else. Their complaint, if successful, will do just that. It can do no other.”

It really is hard not to hate the little buggers, isn’t it?

At least suicide bombers just die and get it over with — we don’t have to listen to their constant whining and lying and yack yack yacking.

Had these three blown up Maclean’s editorial offices, Ted Rogers and the mag’s intrepid (still living) staff would and could have roughed out a new number after an interval, as a kind of “screw you!” to the terrorists, and the remaining non-comatose Canadians would have cheered.

The genius of the Sharia Creeps’ complaint is that they can silence Maclean’s (and, don’t doubt it, every other publication in Canada) more effectively without violence, because they’ll have preemptively silenced the “screw you” — not to mention the cheers.

I really do admire Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn for taking the high road and encouraging the rest of us to do likewise.

Alas, they were brought up better than I was.

I just don’t have it in me any more, if I ever did.

I’m old, tired and pissed off.

I for one have no intention of trying to “win” these idiots and their little friends “over” — I don’t want them “over” beside me in any event. Even if miraculously converted, they are too stupid to be of much use and would probably end up doing more harm, spreading their latent stupidity cooties to the rest of us.

Honey or vinegar? Jesus, who the hell wants flies to begin with?

I’m not convinced that anything less than public humiliation will penetrate their tiny minds and wear them down. If they say ever “sorry”, then I’ll be nice to them. Not before.

I’m not interested in getting the Order of Canada, a party post or a media gig. I have no reputation to ruin, no guest lists to be struck from and no friends worth keeping if I lost them over this.

Frankly, I don’t think we’re being obnoxious enough, given the stakes.

So you do it your way — believe me, I’ll support you for what it’s worth, and for all I’m worth — but I’ll do it mine.
