5 Feet of Fury

“Have I told you lately that I love you?”

Thanks for your thoughtful emails over Christmas, like that one. Two below are typical:

* “Just a Christmas note to say how much I enjoy reading Five Feet of Fury every day.  Unemployment ‘sucks dead bears’ as a friend of mine used to say, but it sure has done your readers a boat-load of good. I rather dread the day you find gainful employment, although for your sake I hope it happens soon.

* Your blogging has been great lately. Kinda hoping you don’t find a job 😉

So to let you know: I’ll be starting my job search in earnest in January — this time of year is a write-off.

I’ll be looking at all kinds of possibilities, both regular full time work and freelancing: writing, editing, whatever. Other writers and editors I know have offered to help in my search.

I’d love to blog full time, obviously. But even with ad revenue, and your generous donations, I’m a long way from being able to swing that.

It’s too bad, because I really have found my niche here. The irony is that, in speaking my mind here in ways that are impossible in other venues, and getting lots of praise for it, I’ve also rendered myself less than desirable, employment-wise, in the “real world.”

Working in an office just isn’t a good temperamental “fit” for me, anyway. I can do it, obviously, because I have to; we do have a mortgage after all.

Whatever happens, you’ll be the first to know. Thanks again for your kind messages.
