Adrian conflates “white men get treated poorly in society/media” with guys marching with Nazi flags and running someone over. He calls the former view “controversial.” Really? Given the way men are portrayed in commercials to the male suicide/drop out etc rates?
Classic cover your ass MSM yammering/virtue signalling, esp. in Canada’s tiny media pool, where one wrong fart can cost you your career (as we’ve seen recently re J. Kay and others)
As for Ezra I don’t see the problem. No one has been able to agree on the definition of alt-right since day one. I too saw it as 90% anti-PC frog memes and 10% Jew-haters — who I tend to think of more as “paleos” or any number of long-extant words.
Unfortunately, sometimes things are decided for us, and it is also unrealistic to expect 99% of the general population to understand nuanced political jargon.
As of Saturday, whether we like it or not, Alt-Right officially came to mean Nazi, which is fitting because that word is Richard Spencer’s coinage anyhow.
Lots of us overlooked the source because, let’s be honest, it’s a really cool sounding word.
Now we have to let it go.
That’s really all he was saying as far as I can see. He was clarifying the site’s editorial stance in the wake of a horrible event. Do note that previous to Ezra’s statement, there was almost 48 hours of social media “The Rebel is the alt-right and has a hand in this violence” tweets/facebook post. so something had to be said.
