Having been the victim of well-financed lawfare, I just can’t take Reid (or Thiel’s) side in this.
Yes, we need to defeat the Left, and yes, “‘Not showing up to riot’ is a failed conservative strategy.”
However, Thiel is one of only a handful of men able to finance what we really need:
A viable “free speech” alternative to Facebook, Twitter et al.
Maybe fund REAL security for conservatives who speak on campuses, and “Mohammed cartoonists.”
This is what he spent his money and energies on instead.
I LIKE revenge. A LOT. Don’t get me wrong.
But is a “sex tape” newsworthy? Rarely. But, hey, I know:
Don’t make sex tapes and then no one will be able to “leak” and publish them!
How is feeding the litigation culture that is destroying America really a positive thing?
And Thiel’s defence — that he’s doing this for our own good, he’s helping us, making the world a better, cleaner place, you see — should set off every conservative’s and libertarian’s alarm bells. We hear it all the time from the guy suing Mark Steyn, for example, and from David Suzuki, who want to jail “climate deniers.”
