Hebdo has been allowed to drive a debate on Islam and immigration because there are so few mainstream institutions on the left discussing these issues responsibly, and so few Muslims in the public domain doing so without either being overly defensive or exploiting antipathy towards Islam.

The Jews weren’t trying to get into Germany, for example. Eventually, the smart ones were trying to GET OUT.
Jews contributed scientifically and culturally to Germany and the West for generations. Muslims not so much.

Anyway, nice to see Charlie Hebdo — I hate to say “redeem” themselves because that is an asshole comment. They owe me, and everyone else on the planet, sweet f all, from now until the end of time.
