The press is desperate to catch the same “mistake” with this movement. They are dying for the Hammonds to be racist Tea Party rednecks who hate liberals because “commies is nigger lovers” or something. This is why when Saint Negro made his fake tweet, the media grabbed the fire and ran blindly into the snow. CNN followed the account religiously and through his fake account’s direct messages he had conversations with the BBC, CBC, and Al Jazeera. As Negro put it, “When you fool the whole world with a parody acct.” (…)

Everything Conor Friedersdorf writes sounds like an application for a mid-level job at a right wing thinktank — even this — but it’s good:
Thankfully, more responsible voices on the left are meeting tribal illogic and demonization with reason. “I understand the gut satisfaction of fantasizing about a Bonnie & Clyde style shootout that leaves the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge soaked in terrorist blood, but that’s really not what any of us should want,” Kevin Drum writes at Mother Jones. “These guys aren’t terrorists, anyway. They’re just as misguided as real terrorists, but they haven’t taken anyone hostage or threatened to blow up an airplane.” I don’t actually understand why a shootout is appealing even as fantasy, or how someone can be “just as misguided as real terrorists” without committing any acts of terrorism, but I’ll take it.
And speaking of conservatives, Ben Shapiro is pretty ok here, mentioning the Whiskey Rebellion and John Brown (which this Canadian been quietly screaming about since this thing started.) He writes:
As a brave black woman in the Jim Crow South, Parks risked her life on Dec. 1, 1955. She did it without an armed posse to back her up.
HOWEVER, her immediate “descendants” in the Civil Rights Movement often did; will everyone PLEASE read This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed so we can all be on the same page?
And speaking of conservative think tanks? This isn’t a parody apparently.
(It should have been headlined, “Some people finally lived up to the principles I’ve been getting rich-ish expounding on — with a nice tax break, I’ll bet — and now I’m chickening out.”)
