Ayn Rand and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ (not really)

Yeah, it’s not a “Scare” if the “Reds” are real — as they were in Hollywood — but I’m semi-resigned to having to type that for the rest of my life.

Anyhow, my dislike of It’s a Wonderful Life is a matter of tedious record. The person I hate most in the movie isn’t Potter at all, it’s stupid Uncle Billy, who really deserves to be throttled.

I’ve often said that I prefer The Fountainhead — the story of a successful architect — to It’s a Wonderful Life any day, for the same reason I’ve never been able to sit through Slackers and Clerks:

Films about losers give me hives.

Jimmy Stewart SHOULD have run off and become an architect and told his hick family to screw themselves — it was precisely that sort of person who came TO America and made it great. (Something Capra should have understood.)

And would it really kill you, Mr. Architect, to FIX THE GODDAMN BROKEN KNOB ON THE STAIRCASE??

So here’s an article about suspicions that the film was communist propaganda, with bonus Ayn Rand testimony, not, alas, against It’s a Wonderful Life.

UPDATE: I’m reminded via Facebook that Jimmy Stewart made another Christmas movie, which is much better even though it was made by Mormons…
