Instead, this is essentially a horror movie. Tura’s character Varla is the monster: the main character, the driver of the plot, and focus of fear and terror. The other characters need to escape or destroy her. The audience is there to revel in her transgressions. She joins the likes of Freddy and Jason, the Alien and the Terminator, Dracula and Frankenstein. She’s the whole show. You’re there to watch her or you’re wasting your time.
