The Onion: Scott Walker ‘stood up to people who make living pulling others from burning buildings’

Yeah, no.

Fighting fires is low on the list of things fire fighters do these days. We don’t live 100 years ago.

Fire fighters mostly pull morbidly obese hoarders out of their homes, rescue cats, show up at car wrecks with the “jaws of life” — all hard work but NOT as physically risky as the profession used to be, and for while firemen were compensated accordingly.

If fighting fires were their primary occupation, they wouldn’t have been able to go along more or less quietly with the affirmative action programs that force them to dumb down and ease up the requirements for more “diverse” applicants.

Unionized fire fighters want 1950s (inflation adjusted) salaries, benefits and pensions for doing 21st century work.

Walker told them taxpayers could no longer afford to be so generous. Duh.
