5 Feet of Fury

It should frighten you to think that Mark Kingwell is teaching someone’s children

Thoreau? Seriously?

He was a poseur and a dilettante who left his “hermitage” every Sunday to have dinner with his mom.

(She did his laundry, too).

He hosted regular fancy-people visitors the whole time he was at Walden.

Plus he only spent one night in jail.

It’s funny that leftist hippie Americans hold Thoreau up as an example of “getting out of the rat race,” when his vaunted solitude and civil disobedience was as “instant” and convenient as Sanka.
