Will Queen Latifah’s ‘Bessie Smith’ biopic repeat the myth about her death

I guess we’ll find out.

While nowhere near as egregrious as the legacy of The Deputy, Edward Albee‘s play The Death of Bessie Smith (1959) helped perpetuate the myth that Smith died after a car crash because she was refused admittance to a whites-only hospital.

Because AmeriKKKa is EVIL! etc.

The play is still occasionally performed.
