Ahh, the old “I can’t understand why…” trope, which is an oft-spoken left wing euphemism for “I know perfectly well why, but I’m afraid to admit, either to myself or to you, or both.”
“I can’t understand…” is on a continuum with “I got no reason to lie” — an inane comment you’ll frequently hear from Judge Judy criminals.
Then again, they DO vote for the same party…
