Director Mike Nichols, one of the most influential artists of his generation, has passed away at age 83. Nichols is one of the few people who could claim to be the winner of the Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards. Nichols rose to fame with his comedy act in which he teamed with Elaine May. He made a successful transition into feature film with his 1966 screen adaptation of Edward Albee’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”, a triumphant film debut that starred Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The following year he won the Oscar for his 1967 classic “The Graduate”. Other films over the decades included “The Birdcage”, “Working Girl”, “Charlie Wilson’s War” and “Silkwood”.
