My favorite storyline in pre-Code movies involves women protagonists who lose their virginity to immature, cowardly, irresponsible, or cruel men. After the young women get pregnant, they find themselves alone and on their own. In order to survive, and to do what is best for their child, they give up their bundle of joy. When the child matures, the mother crosses paths with him or her again, revealing that the mother’s great sacrifice was justified.
