Incidentally, Sailer’s column accidentally illustrates a glaring blindspot I’ve noticed in the theories put forward by Ayn Rand fans.
I agree with a lot of what Rand said — after all, in many instances, she was merely making what used to be pretty commonsense observations — but as far as I know, she never took into account the role that organized crime has played in the development of those symbols of American wealth she was so enamored of.
Not a few of those skyscrapers she fairly worshiped were financed and constructed by mobbed up unions, for instance.
