I wish Ms Christiansen good luck with her case, but one notes that the Supreme Court has dramatically circumscribed protections against unreasonable search and seizure when it occurs at America’s border, and, given that the border’s now 100 miles wide, that means Three Points is a Fourth Amendment-free zone. In stories like these, Washington is telling you how it’s going to go when things get even worse.

In part, this is due to the tendency towards free market reforms that allowed Canada to spring back more rapidly after the Great Recession. I suspect that there is also a cultural component as well, as Americans increasingly try to argue that work is tyranny and that, therefore, an absence of work is liberty. But why is this wrong? Why is a thrifty, hardworking population preferable to an idle, leisure-centric one?
