April 5, 2014 By Kathy Shaidle

“I definitely worry for bookstores, big and small,” said Emily Burns, a Toronto librarian. “Bookstores are inevitably the heart of most downtown areas . . . there is a real loss for communities when libraries and bookstores alike pack their bags.”

Burns and her husband often made spending time at the location a ritual before seeing a movie at the Scotiabank Theatre above.

“The location couldn’t have been more perfect,” she said. “Sometimes we would both browse — fiction, children’s books, community and culture, travel, and more recently the gift section as well — and sometimes we would just settle in and chat.”
