7 Warning Labels Modern Music Desperately Needs

Actually, #2…

should be #1.

I hear “Boston” is touring again. Hey, “Boston” — your irreplaceable lead singer killed himself years ago. Just sayin’.

If Creedence Clearwater Revisited died in plane crash tomorrow, well, good.

One of the worst examples was Joe Strummer’s desperate attempt to keep The Clash going after firing Mick and Topper, then putting out a song with the new band called… “We Are The Clash.”

It took two guitarists to replace Mick:

[I]n October the band began posting anonymous advertisements in Melody Maker seeking a new guitarist. After auditions (during which the identity of the band remained a secret), The Clash selected two guitarists, Nick Sheppard and Greg White, with the latter taking the name Vince White due to Simonon’s refusal to play in a band with someone named “Greg”.

Of course, Mick also took his tune-writing abilities with him. And stuff:

When I got chucked out The Clash they couldn’t get it right anymore, and Bernard [Rhodes, Clash manager] would say “No, no do it like Mick!” When I’d left they were shouting at the new guys and Bernard would turn to Joe and say ” See, Immigrant Blood!” because Bernard had a similar back ground to me, and he believed it was all in the blood.

Only Joe’s untimely death put fans in a forgiving mood.

Like in post-gang-rape Prince of Tides, everyone took an unspoken vow never to speak of the “Cut the Crap” era again.

Except for “This Is England,” which they pretend was on one of the “real” five albums.
