March 5, 2014 By Kathy Shaidle

On May 2, on “The Colgate Comedy Hour” — the Treniers, one of the wildest of the early rock-‘n’-roll groups, were their guests that night — Dean and Jerry put on happy faces to celebrate their eighth anniversary as a team by “recreating” their first appearance together at the 500 Club.

They closed out the show by joining the Treniers for a berserk performance of the band’s new record, “Rockin’ Is Our Business.” Few knew what to make of it.

Elvis Presley was still two months away from making his first record, and most colored folk were still watching radio.
