5 Feet of Fury

Today in yesterday: Happy Birthday, ‘Alice Cooper’

DM:

‘I’ve become lovable now. It’s great to get to play a villain on stage, but everybody knows I’m not a villain.’ In fact, the man once regarded as a satanic monster by moral crusaders prays and reads the Bible every day and teaches it to a Christian class once a week when he is not on tour. (…)

‘I’ve been married 35 years,’ he says. ‘I’ve never cheated on my wife. People say, how do you keep that together? I say I am so in love with my wife that sometimes I’ll come home on a Tuesday afternoon and take her to a cheap motel. That’s what keeps the sexual spark alive.’ (…)

‘I didn’t have my first drink until I was 21 years old and I didn’t realise I had an addictive personality,’ he says. ‘At high school I was a runner and I ran 100 miles a week. I overdid everything.’

He certainly did alcohol and crack cocaine to excess; he later learned he’d been only a few weeks away from death.
