I demand a moratorium on ‘residency’ and that’s final

January 3, 2014 By Kathy Shaidle

Sheesh:

Meat Loaf will head to Las Vegas in February for a 24-date residency at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino for Rocktellz & Cocktails.

Maybe this trend has been going on for a while, but the first time I heard “residency” was last year when the Clash “boombox” came out, and lots of nostalgic articles mentioned the band’s “legendary residency at Bond’s.”

Which I’m pretty sure the band itself referred to at the time rather less majestically as: “The owner did fucking WHAT??” (/exhale)

I can never find it, but after Groucho died, TIME (or something) dug up a quote of his that went something like: “They call us ‘anarchists.’ Right. Chico just lost his money at a poker game, Harpo is off chasing women, and I just wanna get the hell out of this goddamn town.”
