‘Finally, we found that men showed a stronger preference for the (heavy metal) tracks than women’

November 12, 2013 By Kathy Shaidle

Science!

Those with a strong preference for metal “were also more likely to have lower self-esteem,” the researchers write. They speculate this style of music “allows for a purge of negative feelings,” producing a catharsis that may “help boost self-worth.”

No, I haven’t been able to isolate this particular clip, so here’s some of the stuff that didn’t make the final cut.

As I’ve noted before, the official version of Spinal Tap is like Pixar’s version of Cocksucker Blues — almost comically drug-and-groupie free for a mockumentary about a rock band.

I’m told that the many hours of unused material are more “realistic,” but I doubt I’ll ever watch them.

Reiner and company were right to assume that viewers would more readily embrace a more lovably “innocent” band.

It happens with real groups as well. Fans can only handle so much reality.
