I liked Dead Snow, and I’ve heard of Shock Waves — but The Frozen Dead (1966) is new to me:
Like Herbert J. Leder’s golem movie IT! (1967), with which THE FROZEN DEAD was paired for theatrical exhibition, this thing is nuts. It pinwheels all over the place trying to find its niche and it never does but what a wild ride. The movie gets you thinking it’s going to be a proto-Nazi zombie flick, granddaddy of Ken Weiderhorn’s SHOCK WAVES (1977), Joel M. Reed’s NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES (1981), Jess Franco’s OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES (1982 — zombies in Egypt, just like General Lubek said!), and Tommy Wirkola’s DEAD SNOW (2009), but that concept is discarded fairly early on as Norburg admits he cannot do anything with his “frozen dead” but lock them up in the dungeon.
