‘Old t-shirts are racist!’

October 14, 2013 By Kathy Shaidle

It’s a Mrs. Jellyby v. Mrs. Jellyby throw down, as do-gooder leftists denounce other do-gooder leftists.

Fortunately, the flaw in the “argument” is easily debunked, thanks to somebody who’s read Economics in One Lesson — and Bastiat’s Negative Railroad:

Akin to the broken windows fallacy. Hey why don’t we mandate that stores should each have a broken window once a month so that the window repair guys can have a job?

Dirt poor Africans should buy their shirts from local manufacturers at a higher cost than 2nd-hand imported clothes? No! Africans should have the freedom to spend their money wherever and however they like. If local manufacturers can’t compete against cheap 2nd hands, then maybe they need to find another avenue of business.

If Africans aren’t spending money on local clothes, then they’re spending it on other stuff which still keeps the money within the economy. IOWs free-markets.

Once again, clueless Bwana/Oyinbo presuming to decide what’s best for poor Africans.
