Actually, no, the last Pope was not gay: When people on our side believe stupid things…

September 23, 2013 By Kathy Shaidle

Yesterday I socialized with two men who were adamant that the previous Pope had resigned because he was gay.

“That didn’t happen,” I shot back, as many times as I had to until I wore them down. Party pooped.

One thing we really need on our side — and have done for some time — is the ability to distinguish junk news from the real thing, and conspiracy theories and satire from reality.

This tendency towards rube-ery and bumpkin-ness is a chronic problem on the right and makes us all look like morons.

It is a particular problem when the people earnestly telling you this stuff do not belong to the same religion you do — cough — and therefore, through no fault of their own, don’t “get” it from the inside AND, through every fault of their own, insist that YOU must be mistaken.

Please do not send people stupid shit via email or post wacky stuff on your blog.
