It’s sad when you’re almost nostalgic for criminals trying to prove their “intellectual superiority” by committing the perfect crime, instead of displaying their inferiority by committing a thoughtless, pointless one.

And I would add, the “boredom” motive also sounds too, well, white to be entirely believable either.
