While they eventually arrested 18 illegal occupiers of an Enbridge site near Hamilton, it took them almost a week to do so, and the criminals were actually given special rights and protection when journalists arrived and wanted to film them.
They pushed large posters in front of a Sun News camera, physically forcing reporters away. When the Sun crew merely stood their ground, a bumptious cop took them aside, gave them the now-typical patronizing lecture about what constitutes good journalism, and then aggressively demanded ID. Those illegally occupying the site, however, were not asked for theirs.
