‘Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead’: Mark Steyn on the story behind the song

April 15, 2013 By Kathy Shaidle

Mark Steyn:

For what it’s worth, a record called “I’m In Love With Margaret Thatcher” is presently Number Two at Amazon, although I would wager that both songs will slip down the charts pretty quickly in the days ahead. Mrs Thatcher (whose favorite songs included “How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?” and the great Rolf Harris hit “Two Little Boys”) would have relished the witless but supremely flattering glee her death has provoked in her ingrate compatriots. Nonetheless, “Ding-Dong!”‘s sudden royalty windfall does give us a chance to celebrate one of the best moments from one of the best ever movie scores as our Song of the Week this week.
