Droning on: ‘Ummmm…I don’t think you get how Colin uses Twitter…’

March 8, 2013 By Kathy Shaidle

How Colin Quinn “uses Twitter” can be hard to “get,” I agree.

In “meat space,” Quinn can be hard to “get” because a) he mumbles sometimes and b) his sense of humor is parched.

As for Twitter: The only way I can try to explain @iamcolinquinn — and this is so pretentious — is that out of 140 characters, you have to assume that about 80 of them are sarcastic, and 60 of them aren’t, and both kinds of characters are mixed together.

Yeah, I know. But that’s the best I can do.

As for drones, some of this argument sounds like the Vatican and other entities condemning every new weapon — fighter jets, machine guns, gas, nuclear bombs — as particularly “inhuman,” and that condemnation not making much practical difference.

So drones aren’t powered by humans? Good. I want as few casualties on our side as possible. We aren’t bombing enough people from the air.

I admire Rand Paul’s principled stance, but think it odd that not once this week have I heard a conservative or libertarian on his side say the words “Waco.”

There’s a Kent State photo making the Facebook rounds, but no mention of Ruby Ridge or the MOVE bombing.

The damn hippies have all the good, iconic pictures, for one thing.

But other than that, there’s no excuse except cowardice.

UPDATE — So of course, David Frum writes:

Instead, Paul invoked a nightmare out of a dystopian future: an evil future president shooting a missile at an American having coffee in a neighborhood cafe, merely on suspicion, without any due process of law.

I think we can all agree that such a case would be pretty deplorable. It is also far-fetched.
