5 Feet of Fury

As I’ve been saying for years: Multiple Personality Disorder finally declared bullsh*t

I met numerous “multiples” in Alcoholics Anonymous — at precisely the time that “multiplicity” became re-fashionable, in the late 1990s.

Depending on the prevailing trends, these same people would present themselves as “satanic ritual abuse survivors” and/or “alien abductees.”

Of course, they all had “chronic fatigue syndrome.” Because I actually DID have chronic fatigue, thanks to lupus, I didn’t have much time for their malingering hypochondria.

Because more “medicine” that we realize is tied to fashion.

While not the most elegantly written books around, one of the most influential in my own life is From Paralysis to Fatigue: A History of Psychosomatic Illness in the Modern Era, which I happen to be currently re-reading.

Like my husband, I trust that this latest “discovery” will eventually lead to the demise of “transsexualism” as a legitimate diagnosis, along with “peanut allergies.”
