Just a heads up to Mr. Saunders about WHY the Irish were (eventually) assimilated: they were bullied into it by authority/peers because they really were acting like “nativists” accused them of acting. The Irish were so ill behaved in 5 Points that the blacks moved away…
As an aside: the cover for Doug Saunders’ book is uncharacteristically awful. (Canadians do tend to come up with attractive book covers, not to mention the best looking postage stamps on earth.)
