5 Feet of Fury

Whereas the correct answer is ‘Psycho’ (1960)

Saw this coming since the restoration a few years back:

Vertigo replaces Citizen Kane in new Sight & Sound poll.

But since Psycho is better than Vertigo, then Psycho is the greatest movie ever made.

Twenty years from now, people will be embarrassed they picked Vertigo, like they won’t admit how long Charlie Chaplin was “the greatest comedian” and City Lights used to make all the Top 10 lists, before everybody switched to Buster Keaton. (Including me.)

Vertigo‘s critical re-evaluation in the 90s already sounds self-indulgent and ragged around the edges.

Case in point: Three of the top 10 are movies about movies (or photography.)

Nice to see Tokyo Story on the list.

But come on: 2001 is still overrated pretentious crap.

And if Jaws didn’t have so many long stretches of 1970s nothingness (like the family dinner scene) then, yeah.
