Here in Canada, many Jews have moved their political support to provincial and federal Conservative politics. There are several reasons for this.
First, a gradual acceptance and understanding that the Liberal party — at least at the federal level — did not have a consistent reputation for a fair and balanced approached to Israel.
Among other reasons: voting patterns at the UN, Canadian participation in anti-Israel and clearly anti-Semitic confabs such as Durban I, and the unfortunate comment made by Michael Ignatieff that Israel might have committed “war crimes” in its 2006 war against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
