I used to work at a (very) major charity.
The production designer drew an exquisite “holiday” card one year, depicting children playing in the snow.
It had to be redesigned, however, because the women (they are always women) at the top insisted he stick a little black kid in the corner someplace.
This situation repeats itself hundreds of times every day, in corner offices across North America.
Back in 1982s, someone in one particular corner office with an especially spectacular view no doubt insisted that this ad (left) reflect the same wholesome, adorable, utterly forced depiction of “diversity.”
I wonder if any of his body parts were ever recovered.
