The fixer: Tarek and Natasha Fatah owe friends and colleagues a public apology

April 26, 2012 By Kathy Shaidle

As I/we’ve all been reminding each other since this awful incident, a “fixer” is and long has been the commonplace, decidedly NON-racist term for a local hired to serve as info-sherpa to foreign journalists.

Yes, those hired as fixers tend to be non-white because — duh — they live in mostly non-white countries.

Where the reporters are reporting from? Duh?

Accusations of “racism” can be fatal for journalists (see, “Derbyshire, John”).

Accusing some of the least racist individuals in Canada — people Tarek knows well and has worked with for years — of “racism” is bizarre.
