I rarely call out Professional Conservatives(tm), but Peter Robinson continues to make me wonder about the talent selection process at work in Mainstream Rightwing Media.
As I’ve said before, I had to stop listening to the ever-so-promising Richocet podcast because Robinson’s man-crushes were so embarrassingly naked you could practically hear Astroglide dripping on the studio floor.
Far worse, though, is Robinson’s apparent thoughtlessness and naivete.
As I wrote earlier today, I understand that quirk in liberals: they’re stupid. But we’re supposed to be smarter.
On that note, I just got this email:
I still listen to the ricochet podcasts because I like the other people, even though you’re right and Robinson is super-annoying.
This made me laugh out loud, can’t believe a grown man, a fairly significant figure in the conservative movement, with the resume to prove it, just figured this out.
How dumb do you have to be not to have known this? And to have something this obvious ‘blow your mind’?
Plus every time he does that stupid voice inflection thing as if he were asking some profound question on Uncommon Knowledge, I want to punch him.

If only I’d thought to grow a penis, go to college and write a famous speech 25 years ago, I guess I could get away with this Gumpishness too, dammit!

If one truly believes that abortion is “murder” and there is a literal “murder factory” down the road, there is only one course of action an honest man could take. If one is adamant that an armed body is violently invading your homeland with government complicity, why is no one emulating Daniel Shays and his men? If a tyrannical judiciary is actively opposing the people by force or writ, why are the people not on the steps with tar and feathers?
Though they are in no way here encouraged or condoned, why are such extreme acts so rare? If people in the millions are as committed to their sacred principles as they claim, why do almost all of them fail to act?
The sad fact is that even while Americans drift into two separate philosophical nations they coagulate into one mass. Political differences may become louder, but significant action becomes ever less plausible. Doing things of consequence is difficult. Doing anything at all requires effort. Eating donuts on the sofa or mindlessly ensuring compliance with ridiculous regulations at the office is seductively easy.
